A Multifaceted Landscape in Petaluma
This multifaceted landscape in Petaluma is a perfect example of our ability to design and build a space that provides the homeowners with endless opportunities to be outside. Our goal was to extend the home’s living and dining areas into the garden, creating a self-sustaining ecosystem that offers both beauty and a bountiful harvest, all while capturing the stunning views of the surrounding pastoral hills.
The Design & Features
To bring this expansive vision to life, our landscape design and build team employed a holistic approach, integrating multiple zones for different activities. The design carefully balances hardscape with edible and native plantings, creating a space that is both an outdoor kitchen and a working farm. Key features of this project include:
- Gourmet Outdoor Kitchen & Dining: We designed and built a full outdoor kitchen complete with a grill, ample counter space, and a rustic pergola for shade. Adjacent to this is a spacious patio with a custom fire pit, surrounded by a built-in bench. This setup effectively extends the home’s living and dining room onto the patio, making it the perfect spot for entertaining.
- Edible Garden & Fruit Tree Orchard: The landscape is not only for leisure but also for nourishment. We installed raised vegetable beds and planted a fruit tree orchard, providing a steady source of food for the family. This element highlights our commitment to creating sustainable, food-producing landscapes.
- Sustainable Systems: This project incorporates several cutting-edge sustainable elements. A chicken coop and compost bins provide a closed-loop system for creating healthy soil. Additionally, a rainwater catchment system from the roof’s downspouts stores water underground, which is then used to irrigate the entire landscape, ensuring minimal waste and maximum efficiency.
