Creating a Personal Oasis in Novato

This project, aptly titled “A Dreamy, Secret Garden,” was a whimsical transformation of a simple backyard into a deeply personal oasis. Our clients wanted a landscape that would feel like a private sanctuary, a place of discovery and quiet contemplation, where every corner holds a new delight. We were tasked with creating a lush, layered environment that felt both enchanting and functional.

The Design & Features

To bring this enchanting vision to life, our landscape design and build team focused on creating a series of intimate, interconnected spaces. We used a rich tapestry of plants and thoughtful hardscape to blur the lines between wild and cultivated, ensuring the garden felt both natural and meticulously designed. Key features of this project include:

1. Lush, Layered Planting: The garden is defined by a vibrant mix of perennials, grasses, and shrubs that create a sense of abundance and discovery. The strategic layering of different textures, heights, and colors ensures the garden looks full and inviting all year long, providing a constant source of visual interest.
2. A Dry Creek Bed: A beautifully crafted dry creek bed winds its way through the landscape. Filled with smooth river stones, this feature not only serves as a natural and sustainable drainage solution but also adds a whimsical, sculptural element that looks beautiful in all seasons.
3. Distinct Outdoor Rooms: We designed the garden to offer several unique “rooms” for different moods. A cozy seating area with Adirondack chairs provides a social space, while a secluded hammock tucked away in a quiet corner offers a perfect spot for solitary relaxation and reading.
4. A Charming Garden Studio: The garden is home to a custom-built studio shed with a modern corrugated metal exterior. This charming structure adds a unique architectural element to the space and provides a versatile retreat for work, hobbies, or simply getting away from it all.

The Outcome

The result is a truly enchanting landscape that feels like a hidden treasure. This “Dreamy, Secret Garden” is a testament to our ability to create spaces that are not just beautiful but also evoke a sense of wonder and peace.
